The head of GT Solar pointed out that the newly acquired sapphire substrate product has won the favor of LED customers, and the production capacity in fiscal year 2011 has been sold out. The expected demand will exceed the estimated capacity in fiscal year 2012. In addition, the sapphire substrate business grew faster than expected.
Based on the increase in potential order opportunities on sapphire substrates, the stability of backlog orders, the continued demand of solar customers and the growing trend of polysilicon orders, GT Solar raised its 2011 fiscal year financial results: revenue will reach US$775-850 million, which is better than previous Estimated US$7.00-7.75 million; diluted earnings per share will reach US$1.0-1.1, which is higher than the previous estimate of US$0.9-1.0.
GT Solar announced on July 30, 2010 that it has acquired Crystal Systems, Inc., a manufacturer of sapphire substrates and titanium sapphire (Ti:sapphire). GT Solar noted that Crystal Systems' sapphire processing technology complements GT Solar's silicon growth technology to develop sapphire silicon technology that significantly exceeds its competitors. In 2010, Crystal Systems' revenue is expected to reach $16 million. 
GT Solar's 2010 Q3 revenue increased to $229.3 million
GT Solar International, Inc., a provider of solar equipment and sapphire substrates, announced that Q3 (July-September) revenue increased 120% year-on-year, and nearly 70% quarter-on-quarter to $229.3 million; diluted earnings per share reached $0.28, far better than Q2's $0.11 was $0.06 compared to the same period last year.
