Lars Nielsen: GCF is the key on the road to terminal certification for 5G and the Internet of Things

5G is the next-generation mobile technology and the new core network in the future. The international testing and certification organization GCF is actively preparing for the 5G certification launched from Q1-2019. At the "2018 China Telecom Smart Terminal Technology Forum" on September 14, Lars Nielsen, General Manager of GCF, introduced the progress of 5G and IoT terminal certification.

5G terminal certification officially launched

Lars Nielsen said that 3GPP equipment certification in the mobile communications industry currently has more than 300 members from all over the world participating and the number of members is still growing. In 2018, 21 new member countries joined. Operators, equipment manufacturers, and the testing industry are mainly involved in brand certification. Among them, China Telecom provides more than 500 products for certification every year and is one of the very active contributors. In 2018, the number of IoT modules will hit a record high.

While 5G maintains existing services for operators and users, it will also develop more new services. Therefore, GCF's certification of 5G is mainly carried out through three aspects. The first is to ensure the interoperability of equipment and networks, and the second is to reduce industrial testing. Cost, and finally, accelerate the development of the 5G market.

GCF invests heavily in 3GPP test solutions

According to Lars Nielsen, the validity of the equipment certification verification test scheme is determined by the availability of the test scheme in TTCN. The 3GPP TF160 expert working group is composed of more than 20 test technical experts dispatched by 3GPP members under the management of MCC/CTI composition. TF160 maintains a series of more than 3000 conformance test cases, and is developing at a rate of 200 new test cases every year. These test cases are provided to the terminal certification organization GCF to verify whether the mobile terminal equipment complies with the 3GPP standards.

GCF is cooperating with 3GPP PCG and ETSI TF160 to ensure that the development of 5G TTCN has sufficient financial support. In 2018, GCF will provide funding for 4 person-months working in the TTCN team, and it is planned to cover at least 8 person-months in 2019.

GCF can handle the complexity of 5G

GCF's device verification standard (DCC) is a leader in the database industry. It has passed more than 1,200 jobs and more than 9,000 tests to ensure that all test modules are normal. DCC successfully completed the 2G to 4G network certification. Next, GCF will continue to invest heavily in the DCC database and GCF's online certification database to ensure that it will vigorously promote the terminal certification of 5G and the Internet of Things.

At the same time, Lars Nielsen said that GCF will conduct NB-loT, onem2m certification and c-v2x certification on the road to terminal certification for 5G and the Internet of Things.

The GCF 5G implementation time plan is as shown below

The above goal is based on the expected 3GPP readiness of the radio-related RRM, showing the earliest introduction of the scheduled conference mode by the GCF.

Lars Nielsen believes that in the future, other 5G options can be incorporated into GCF based on market demand, such as roaming, support for different voice service options, and new solutions to support new services and ecosystems. GCF can add new value to 3CPP communications.

Anisotropic Ferrite Magnets

Anisotropic magnets are magnets whose magnetization directions in the magnets are aligned in a certain direction.

Magnet powder for anisotropic magnets is composed of a single crystal or polycrystal with an aligned direction of magnetization in one magnet particle. When a magnetic field is applied externally during molding (this magnetic field is called an aligning magnetic field), the magnet powder moves to align with the direction of the magnetic field and is solidified in an aligned state, resulting in an anisotropic magnet. Magnet powder aligned with an aligning magnetic field is solidified with keeping magnetization. Therefore, after removing the alignment magnetic field, the molded body becomes a magnet having a magnetic force.
