4G International Standards To Be Officially Announced

The reporter learned from the Chinese delegation participating in the 2012 Radiocommunication Assembly of ITU that this year's Radiocommunication Assembly is expected to review the 4G (IMT-advanced) International Standards Recommendation on January 19. After deliberation, 4G international standards will be formally announced.

In 2010, the relevant working groups of the International Telecommunication Union selected the 4G international standards, and identified LTE-Advanced and 802.16m as candidates for 4G international standards from the six candidate technologies. According to the standard adoption procedure, this radio communications general meeting will conduct final deliberation on these two candidate technologies. After deliberation and approval, the 4G standard will be formally announced.

TD-LTE is announced as one of the 4G standards and is basically a foregone conclusion. Currently, TD-LTE technology has been supported by global telecommunication operators and manufacturing companies. Many telecom operators such as Japan's Softbank, Saudi Arabia's STC and mobily, Brazil's Sky Brazil, and Poland's Aero2 have started commercial or pre-commercial TD-LTE networks.
