Causes of voltage transformer burnout

The voltage transformer is a transformer with a core, which is mainly composed of a primary coil, a silicon steel core and an insulating portion. In the thunderstorm season, faults such as lightning strikes and flashovers of the porcelain bottle occur, causing the high-voltage fuse of the voltage transformer to blow and even burn the voltage transformer. There are several common reasons:

When the single-phase grounding of the 10kV line outlet occurs, the voltage on the high-voltage side of the voltage transformer is equal to the normal voltage value. The core of the voltage transformer is quickly saturated, and the excitation current is sharply increased, causing the high-voltage fuse to blow.

When the secondary low-voltage side of the voltage transformer is short-circuited between the turns and the phase, the low-voltage insurance has not been blown, and the high-voltage fuse is blown or burned out due to the rapid increase of the exciting current.

High-voltage components with capacitive and inductive parameters in the power network, especially ferromagnetic inductive components with iron cores, cause ferromagnetic resonance when the parameter combination is unfavorable. If the circuit breaker is not synchronously closed, the no-load busbar with transformer and ferromagnetic voltage transformer is put into operation, and the high-voltage coil of the distribution transformer is short-circuited to the ground, which may cause ferromagnetic resonance. When ferromagnetic resonance occurs, the overvoltage multiple can be more than 2.5 times, which causes insulation breakdown of electrical equipment and burns electrical equipment accidents.

In view of the above, the following measures can be taken to prevent the voltage transformer from burning out.

Strengthen inspections to eliminate the use of low-voltage insurance for high-voltage fuses.

Install a zero-sequence grounding automatic switch on the high-voltage side grounding line of the voltage transformer to cut off the grounding line; install a small air switch of 3~5A on the secondary side to avoid short-circuiting the voltage transformer.

A harmonic elimination device, that is, a 10KV primary harmonic elimination device, is installed in parallel at the opening triangle of the 10kV voltage transformer.
